Bachelor Nursing, Graduate Certificate in Child, and Adolescent Health Masters of Nurse Practitioner in General Paediatrics (current)

Katie has been a passionate paediatric clinical nurse for over 18 years and is currently in her last year of university, studying her Masters of Nurse Practitioner specialising in general paediatrics. Throughout her career, Katie has worked within multiple acute and tertiary care levels, including peri-operative services, mother’s and children’s high dependency and neonatal care units, schools, and communities. She spent the greater part of her career as a respected clinical nurse within a mixed medical and surgical inpatient care unit for newborn to adolescents. Throughout this time, Katie worked alongside multiple consultant specialists, paediatricians and surgeons in Brisbane where she had the unique opportunity further her clinical practice. Katie enjoys sharing her knowledge by delivering informative sessions and community classes.

Katie supports all families with young children by offering easy to understand clinical explanations for common questions and concerns, incorporating the “big picture” perspective, and offering practical solutions and supportive guidance to families. Katie believes that education is the key to successful healthcare and works to ensure a collaborative health care environment where families are actively involved in creating medical management plans for their children.

Katie is fond of the ever-changing world of paediatrics and is excited for her future as a Nurse Practitioner in General Paediatrics and all that this role brings. With a broad range of skills and knowledge, Katie can play a valuable role in supporting families by providing accessible high-quality, patient-centred care with supportive follow up, increasing patient satisfaction and improving health outcomes.

Katie can offer specialised support and management for the following:

  • Health assessments, screening tests, vaccinations, and preventive care.
  • Common health problems such as respiratory viruses, infections, skin conditions, and minor injuries
  • Chronic illness management through regular check-ups, medication management, and lifestyle counselling
  • Patient education and counselling on topics such as sleeping and settling advice, milestones, troubleshooting behavioural concerns, starting solids and nutritional support, allergy management support, constipation management and is happy to answer any other concern that you may have.

Katie’s three children have taught her that the first few years after birth can be the trickiest to navigate and yet, the most rewarding. Katie’s knowledge, empathy and consistent ethical standards ensure that she is well respected within her professional field.
